Pencelli Residential 2021

Pencelli Residential : Year 6 : October 2021

Day 2- Thursday 14th October 2021

Another incredible day in the Brecon Beacons! We were graced with dry weather once again for our adventures underground, up the mountain and on the water. All children were awake bright and early(!!) ready for room inspections and breakfast; this was followed by some very detailed discussions about what sandwich fillings they would choose. Once we were fully fed and watered; the adventurous Year 6's were briefed for their day's activities and we set off.

All children completed two more activities today and came back after 8 hours filled with excitement and keen to share their experiences. After a little downtime, we filled up on pasta and meatballs and plenty of profileroles. We ended our evening with an carousal of problem solving activities where the children were scored on their teamwork, communication and success.- it was very close and all came down to a thrilling egg drop. As I write this, the children are packing their cases, collecting their wet clothes and very much looking forward to bed!

Tomorrow, we will complete our final activities before returning to the centre, drying off and heading home. We will communicate with parents to let them know our ETA on the way.

Day 1- Wednesday 13th October 2021

We arrived at Pencelli in slight drizzle today, where we started our journey with a walk up the hill to the centre. Upon arrival, the children were shown their rooms, given a briefing about what adventures the three days would hold, made their own lunch and within an hour we were off to our first activity. Over the three days, all of the children will get to experience caving, canoeing, climbing and gorge walking; today we got stuck into the first of these activities.

Orange, Blue and Red groups all headed to the caves at Porth yr Ogof, whilst Green group travelled down to the local canal and yellow group headed into the Brecon Beacons to complete gorge walking. From all groups, the feedback was excellent with lots of enthusiasm and sharing of how great their activity was.

After a hearty fish and chip dinner followed by several helpings of pancakes, ice-cream and fruit, we geared up once again and headed off on the Dingle Descent- a legendary activity for any Pencelli visitor.

Tomorrow, we are looking forward to two more activities in what promises to be fine, dry weather.
