Maths
Our Maths Vision:

At Wroughton Primary Federation we aspire for all of our learners to approach mathematics with confidence and determination and feel comfortable to make mistakes and learn from them. A high-quality mathematics education provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
Do it, Use it and Own it
Children here will firstly DO maths to become fluent in the fundamentals through varied and frequent practise. They will also USE their maths skills to tackle exciting and engaging problems, helping to develop flexible thinking to solve problems and follow a line of enquiry. Finally, all pupils will strive to OWN their maths learning by explaining their thinking clearly and logically using appropriate mathematical vocabulary and making meaningful Mathematical connections to the wider world.
Wroughton Federation is a community of passionate mathematicians. To help us reach our full potential we will use our mathematical bees: the solver, the reasoner and the communicator.

Maths is for everyone
More able pupils who grasp concepts rapidly will be challenged and offered rich and sophisticated problems before any acceleration through new content. We want them to master their learning. Those who are not sufficiently fluent with earlier material will be given support and time to consolidate their understanding, through additional practice, before moving on.
What does it mean to master mathematics?

Maths is everywhere
Throughout the federation, classroom and corridor displays will contain models and images: they will ensure there is a rich, enabling mathematical learning environment. We want maths to have a real presence. Also, connections will be made with each concept using symbols, language, pictures and concrete experiences.

Number Non-Negotiable
This document summarises the areas of Number that each year group will focus on as part of a non negotiable drive to improve the teaching and learning of number and to raise pupils confidence and achievement.

Calculation
Across the Federation each teacher teaches the same calculation methods. The calculation policy has been designed to aid parents in supporting their child at home by explaining the methods used within the school.
