Primary P.E and Sports Funding
Vision
“For each individual, sport is a possible source for inner improvement.”
Pierre de Coubertin
Here at the Wroughton Primary Federation we believe that Physical Education and Sport plays a vital role in enabling us to achieve to our full potential, both in the classroom and on the sports field. We build trust and friendship with each other when we play in teams; we develop our self-confidence and resilience when we finally master various skills. Playing sport develops our thinking skills as we strive to outwit our opponent. We improve our fitness and our knowledge and understanding of what it means to be healthy. Sport teaches us that there are boundaries in life and we compete fairly following accepted rules and showing excellent sportsmanship, both when we win and also when we lose. We participate to the best of our ability respecting our opponents and knowing that our contribution is not only for ourselves, but also for the greater good of our team.
We love PE and sport because...
“we all have different strengths. Even though my sister could always thrash me at tennis, she could NEVER beat me in a swimming race!” #healthycompetition Mrs Hatton
“it’s fun learning different things and it’s good for your well-being.” Charlotte
“it sheds a new light on the children I teach. It gives those children who struggle to achieve in the classroom a chance to shine. We always have fun and it's such a joy to see all of their smiling faces.” Mrs McDonagh
“it keeps me healthy and strong.” Matilda
Our aspiration is that by the time our children are ready to leave us they have developed a love of sport, the physical literacy skills and confidence to be able to take part in any sport they wish and a passion for life long sport participation.
Following the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games, the Government is investing £150 million per year for the academic years 2013-14 and 2014-15 to improve the provision of P.E. and sport in primary schools. This funding was limited and therefore sustainable programmes were encouraged.
The funding is designed to impact upon:
- achievement in P.E. lessons
- an increased involvement in competitive school sport
- personal health and well-being
- improved attitudes and behaviour towards learning
At Wroughton we are committed to ensuring our pupils enjoy sports and games activities and understand the importance of being active and having a healthy lifestyle.
The school will measure the impact of the funding at the end of each academic year through:
- pupil interviews
- staff skills audits
- analysis of attendance at clubs
- School Games Kitemark application review
- observation of P.E. lessons
